Yes Kazz - but people get SO aggresive, and totally unecessarily. I try to smile at people, let them through etc, and just end up being sworn at or having a door shut in my face. It's a shame that the Christmas spirit has to be so sacrificed to the God of retail satisfaction

You must be meeting the wrong sort of person every queue I have stood in I've chatted to the person next to me same as doors it took me a few seconds to get through a door today I stood back to let a lady with a toddler through, she thanked me, then a chap held the door for me then we both held the door for a elderly couple then the elderly couple stepped back to let a couple with a baby and toddler through. Eventually I had to say "Nice to meet you all Happy Christmas but I have to break your hearts now and leave" they all laughed and as I travelled round the centre we smiled and waved everytime we saw each other - never seen them before and I doubt I would recognise them again.

Even in sainsburys car park today as I was loading the car up after shopping the car that pulled up next to me the lady stepped across adn said "is it busy, is anythig left etc" her husband did ask her if she knew me as they walked away and she said "No itsjust Christmas" and she was right.

Surely it can't just be me, can it? I even advised a young lad about 17/19 on a perfume while I was out, Oh I forgot a fight almost broke out at a flight of stairs - why becuase at least 5 people as well as myself offered to carry a pram up the stairs escalator, Dave and a another chap carried it the lady and her husband carried the babies they had twins about 7 months,

Its Christmas

LOL, Kazz. I just love the fact that you are so into the Christmas spirit. I too have had the pleasure of smiles and laughter today. I've had quite an easy time of the shopping (apart for the 1 and a half hours it took to get off of a retail park car park yesterday) and have seen people dressed as santa and elves and fairies, having a whale of a time doing their shopping. You're right Kazz. IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Food shopping

Well - the aggression I've witnessed has not just been directed at me. I've seen people physically snatch items out of someone else's hands in order to secure it for themselves. It's a shame when these kind of things marr what is meant to be a season of goodwill.

Believe me - I'm as cheerful as the next person when it comes to Christmas (although cheerfulness is a very subjective topic), but maybe Reading just suffers from a profusion of impolite people that feel the need to exert their alcohol-fuelled, pent-up anger on the town's population.

Sadly we're now known as 'shopping and boozing central', so I guess the town just attracts these types (shame).

Yola I don't for one moment think that you are not cheerful. As you say the whole concept is subjective, but you have more reason than many to be cheerful you have two healthy happy beautiful sons, a husband who obviously adores you and your family, and its Christmas.

So Happy Christmas, roll on tomorrow night when during the next36 hours the only people who you see like many people will be people who you choose to as it is Christmas
