Dachshunds are normaly I note on extending leads.....or down a rabbit hole complete with extending lead....and owner calling into the rabbit hole. Greyhounds and Whippets are normaly on leads. Once or twice seen an afghan but rarely. Don't see many more other hounds around. But imagine they are all very similar in nature independent; once met a Bloodhound and realised what a massive massive dog they are. And have been to hunts were pack of foxhounds are about they are big too but boy Bloodhounds.... I imagine Basenji's are independent due to the nature of the "job" they were bred /adapted to do. So you are doing brilliantly with Malaika, I mean what is the rush....I mean as long as you are happy with her then take your time. She appears to be a well rounded, well socialised pup......who is a happy soul what more can any one want ...she'd do for me. |

LOL made me laugh Kazz - I have missread sooo many posts so you are not the only one. Oh and the duck legs were fab - you should really get a couple and treat yourself - the others can always have something else. |

I had to giggle at the eggs/legs misreading, I do it frequently, Kazz! Maybe because you were recently posting about eggs (omelette)? No particular mouse story: Leia's been in what I call mouse patrol mode for a bit; acting as if there is one. And usually she shortly appears with a dead one for me. But I saw it the other night in the kitchen and it's still around... I left a bit of bread on the kitchen floor last night to check and it was gone this morning. And Ms Picky does not eat bread .... She will get Supermouse one of these days...... |

Kazz you are so right about hounds. Malaika is great on recall providing their are no other Dogs around. If there is , well forget it. We do let her off lead but are very selective where and when we do it, she loves the freedom but also does well on an extending lead. Some people never ever let their Basenjis off so she's doing well. My cousin and niece let their Begles off and they do disapear sometimes for up to an hour. I just couldn't be doing with that. |

Evening! Been doing some usual weekend stuff; had a lie-in til abou 9 (a rare treat), the the boys and I took the bus (a rare treat for them ) whilst OH took my large car to the garden centre to pick up my picket fencing. Couldn't do it with child seats in the back hence the bus trip.Got loads done at the allotment and have a glut of courgettes - even after the soup - and green beans. Not to worry, they'll get eaten  Took Dominik for his swimming lesson and was impressed at the way he powered through the water. He's going to be a formidable athlete despite my predictions of him being a rather delicate flower. Venison burgers, broad beans, beetroot and mash for dinner (all but the burgers from the lottie) . . . and shortly to bed. |
