Don't want to intrude on your thread, but it's on a similar subject so hope you don't mind.... Purdie, (3-4 months) keeps trying to eat Des and Bubs food - Hills Science Diet Adult Dry - I keep pulling her away from it, but will it hurt her if she has some now and again? It doesn't seem to have affected her tummy thus far, and obviously she mainly has her kitten food. Just wondered it anyone had any thoughts? |

I've said this before on similar threads, sorry to be repeating myself, but Dandy my Singapura kitten refused to eat the kitten food, he made a beeline for the adults food and ate it; the two girls loved the kitten food. It didn't upset anyones stomachs, and Dandy grew up to be a very healthy happy cat. As long as their stomachs tolerate it, I can't see any harm in letting them eat what they like .... |

Specialist kitten food is a fairly recent development - cats managed perfectly well before it came around. Actually I've been vaguely thinking about this since we seem to have so many questions on it and I wonder why it is felt necessary for young creatures to eat high protein? Does it happen 'in the wild'? Well no, young lions, wildcats etc just eat what the hunt provides. And in humans - well, i don't know what's in Heinz jars etc, but my children just ate food, same as us, pureed when necessary and maybe leaving out some of the high spices etc ..... I didn't add protein powder or anything - just gave them good food. Are the food manufacturers taking us for a ride? |

It does make you wonder doesn't it? I'm pretty sure there was no kitten food around when I had my first two kittens, and they both lived to a grand old age! |

It certainly does make you wonder. I didn't realise that kitten food was a fairly recent development. It makes my life easier now too as I just give them both the same. |
