Erin, don't despair, it can be done. I would definitely seek the help of a specialist (I had to change my doctor because the old f@rt I was seeing said 'phhht - there's no such thing as a food intollerance' ). However I did then go back to my herbalist and she had an accurate means of diagnosing both me and OH's intollerances AND she helped with diet sheets etc. I think for the sake of your health - again under guideance from a specialist - you shouldconsider a 'detox' of all the products you think are causing a problem just so you can gauge how you feel when free of all the suspect foods. |

I have an appointment for next wednesday, I spoke to the nurse today who said it did sound more like an allergy than an intolerance, but they would need to do a test to be sure, great!!! Im am going to ask about one of the elimination diets, is that the same as a detox yola?? Really am not sure how ill get on with it though, I tried last year with the soya milk, think I lasted a whole half a day |

Well i went to doctors about this. She said that going by how quickly i react after eating eggs it points to an allergy rather that an intolerance, but the fact that im not getting any rashes or swollen mouth/lips points to an intolerance. She was very unsure we talked for a long time about what my reaction is to other foods, and she agreed that the problems i have with my stomache could be down to a food tolerance/allergy rather than ibs. She actually said she couldnt understand why this hasnt been checked out, given my symptoms. Anyway she has refered me to kiddy hospital for allergy tests and to see a diatician, hopefully things will get sorted now! I was very impressed at how thourough she was, she wasnt like the other doctor i saw,and wasnt so quick to cry 'ibs' like so many doctors do today |

Glad you had an informative visit with this doctor; sounds as if she's on the ball. I do hope the allergy tests will help get to the bottom of the problem, Erin, have you scheduled an appointment yet? |

It's good that the symptoms are being taken seriously. I have an allergy to nuts/sesame; it's quite extreme (shaking, mouth swelling, vomitting - but not life threatening thankfully) so if you're not doing that you know it isn't an allergy. Intollerance is more difficult to define as it's 'degrees of' - some reactions are mild some are more extreme. And as for soya milk - I actually prefer it to cow's milk; which, apart from when I was pregnant with Sebi when I couldn't get enough of it (who now is dairy intollerant bless him - should I not have drank so much milk ), I can't stand!! I find soya milk actually really nice and digestible. Good luck with the tests - once it's diagnosed you do really need to make an effort to stick to what you can and can't eat as it will really make a difference to the way you feel. |

This is what she was unsure about, because within minutes of eating eggs I'm either feeling very very sick or actually being sick (if its anything with raw egg in the reaction is much quicker and more sever, I do vomit every time, and do get the shakes) which she says points to a allergy because of how quickly I react to it, but the fact I dont get any swelling etc says that its more likely a intolerance things are never straight forward with me I will certainly stick to any advise the dietician gives me, even if that means giving up my favourite foods. Am a little unsure of the soya milk though, ive tried that before and it didnt go down very well Ill give it another go though, I think the stuff I had was the unsweetend stuff so Ill go with the sweetend next time. |
