I went on to Stronghold last summer because Frontline wasn't working. It seems that in this area at least fleas are becoming resistant to Frontline.

It was stronghold that i used on Guinness. The problem that i have is that he is a big cat 9kgs still. He goes out but he also goes next door and goes upstairs to bed. Frontline only works on cats up to 6.5kgs i think. The manufactures told me that and i shouldnt put 2 on because it woundlnt work either.

Stronghold is what I use for Imogen and Kindly and we've never had any problems with hair loss. Frontline is only effective against fleas and ticks, whereas Stronghold will kill the ear mites which is probably why your vet used it in this case.

She did tell me stronghold would kill the mites as well as fleas. Thats probably why she used it. Still dont like the bald patch and his skin started going red too. He must be a sensitive wee soul!! lol

We use spot on and it doesn't seem to cause any reaction! If you feel it has caused a reaction it might be best to never use it again, you might just have a sensitive kitty! Yes it is probably a good idea to change vet, try a cat clinic or someone specialised! Hope this helps!

None of mine have had a reaction to spot on. But both of mine have Frontline spray at the moment anyway.

The cat who lives in my parents, who has have spot on deflea stuff gets a nasty bald patch each time she gets defleaed. Similarly, when she has profender (spot on wormer) she gets a bald patch where it has been. Unfortunately she is just a sensitive cat, and as it causes no other problems, it is something that you put up with. I tried other spot on products, but unfortunately she gets the same problem, so it is not product specific. It goes within a month, so it's something we have to live with.

Unfortunately spraying her or trying tablets is not an option with that particular cat as she has a lot of feral tendencies and will turn feral if you try anything else. Spot on though not ideal because of the baldness issue is the only option with her. I follow the instructions to the letter, so it is not my error. Unfortunately your cat may be one of those cats which get a bald patch each time it is applied.

If you are unhappy with the vet, I agree change it. When I lost my cat (Jack) in August and got Pickle in September, I registered him to a different vet. Although it is a longer distance, (4.6 miles versus 9.8 miles) I am much happier than the vets I had with my last cat. Since then a new vet has opened up (only since September last year) which is only half a mile away, but I dont know anyone who has registered there.

Although it is a bit more of a trek, I am happy with the one that Pickle is registered to. Although they are smaller (they only have 3 vets) they provide a much better service than the bigger one that Jack was registered to.

If your cat had a reaction to stronghold, try advocate the next time, it also treats mites, but don't be surprised if she loses hair again. One of my cats goes bald on the spot but its the lesser of 2 evils as far as I'm concerned.
Change your vet if you are unhappy with them, but at the same time it isn't their fault your cat lost hair, it was just unfortunate, as said before frontline doesn't do mites and stronghold does, so I would say she has pretty much done what any other vet would- except that some now use advocate.
