Re: Tribute to Eva

Thankyou all for your kind words. She was a big girl with a bigger personality. She always gave me something to write about, bless her.

Towards the end of last January she stopped eating, got her to the vets and she was jaundiced. I thought it was hepatic lipidosis as we had always struggled with her weight. The vet said it was Cholangiohepatitis, it would be a long haul but she should recover. Over the next few weeks she was given alot of meds and fluids but kept crashing. We then took her down to Edinburgh Royal Dick Vet School. They ran an ultra sound and various other tests, they found that her gall bladder was dangerously distended. They aspirated fluid from the gallbladder to releive some of the pressure and found that the gall bladder wall was very thick and tough which suggested that this wasnt a sudden issue but rather a progressive one. She was kept at Edinburgh for a week, they were had feeding, assist feeding via a tube, she was also being given meds and fluids through a tube. They were also continuing to aspirate fluid from her gallbladder. She was making some improvements. Just as we were discussing her home coming, they ran another ultrasound and found a mass in her bileduct and a shaddow in her gallbladder.
My poor wee girl had cancer. They could have operated and removed the gallbladder but the recovery prognosis from that op' is very poor so we had to make the descision to let her go. They would have kept her going until I could get back down to Edinburgh but that just seemed selfish as she had suffered enough.
We had always had problems with her in respect of her bowl movements and were always told it was behavioural.
She was only 6 yrs old.

That was a long haul for you both Elaine. Poor little Eva. Heartbreaking - and how far away from you she was if she came all the way to Edinburgh.

Re: Tribute to Eva

Yes, the distance was hard but they are wonderful at the Royal Dick. The vet we saw when we arrived was brilliant with Eva. She was not an easy cat to deal with at the best of times. She even put G into A&E with a very nasty bite.
She was the very best cat she knew how to be though and we both loved her very much.

Re: Tribute to Eva

That is a very moving tribute to Eva, Elaine .....

She certainly staked her place as one of Catsey's very special cats and played the Diva to the end. Not only was she very beautiful in everyone's eyes, I think she actually knew it herself ......... in her photos she always displayed her fantastic swishing tail as she ambled along like the duchess she was.

Sleep tight Eva, you will never be forgotten...xx

Re: Tribute to Eva

She sounds like a wonderful character. Am glad she got on with the vet she came down to see. Maybe one day you could tell us some of the stories she gave you to share... Wee walk down memory lane for our other members who obviously loved her from all the things she gave you to talk about!
