Thank you everyone. Yes Yola - My OH is here, and has a day off, so that was a bonus for me. I knew 'something was wrong' when I took Min about 10 days ago. However, her kidney tests came back 100%. I told the vet I still thought there was something and he said they could run all sorts of tests but it wouldn't be easy as all we had to go on was that she was 'not very well'. So we agreed that she would come home and be watched. Maybe it might have been 'just a virus'. She was better for a few days, then her appetite almost vanished. Last weekend she started looking breathless and last night, after coming upstairs, she virtually collapsed flat, mouth open, sucking air. She recovered and we (eventually) went to sleep. I wouldn't have been surprised to find her dead this morning. She was still having difficulty breathing - her chest was moving hugely as she breathed. The vet said he thought he could feel a mass in her belly and the breathlessness (in the absence of heart problems) pointed to an additional mass in/near her her lungs/lung cavity. The likelyhood was a lymphoma, in several sites through her body. He said we could use steroids to (maybe) give her 'a few more weeks' but there didn't seem much point in that. I thanked him for managing her so well through her kidney disease and he thanked me for doing the best for my cat. Must be a sh*tty part of being a vet, even though you know you are doing the right thing for the animal. Still doesn't help you with the wreck of a human in the consulting room. So, that was that. The empty carrier to bring home again. I am OK. Sad and relieved. |
