Re: Computer; when and why?

I wouldn't be without my laptop now, no. For one, I work from home (so the divide is much less clear, especially as I tend to do things while I'm also doing something else on the side) doing UNIX system administration, translation and occasionally a bit of development for Matt's software development and consultancy company (and I love my job).

Also, I am half Belgian and half Dutch, lived in America (Northern Wisconsin) from age 18 to 21 and in Scotland from 21 to 23 and now live in England... There's really no better way to stay in touch with the various people I've met along the way.

Re: Computer; when and why?

I suppose it was inevitable that I would finish up with a computor, my younger son has about 15 at the last count, some out on loan, he gets the bits and builds them mainly for friends and family. As a ten year old when calculators cost the earth he bought the bits and made his own!!!
I finally asked for one when older son went off on a charity motor rally thro' north Africa and the progress of the cars was updated each day on the website -
I would like to do more with this but son explains things as tho I should know what he is talking about and I don't, but I do get a lot of fun out of it and it is great for the monthly shop from Tesco, no more wheeling the trolley round and heaving everything out at the checkout, back in to trolley, then into car and finally into house. Delivered to door is great.
Also great for the information that I'd normally have to go to the library for.and finally , of course, for all the message boards, made a lot of new friends. Logoes

I really empathize with you about home delivery! For about 40 years, I walked down 14 blocks to our Safeway & back up with my shopping cart; when the hills just got to be too much, used the bus to & fro, but it was a hassle dragging the cart on & off th bus...then this Spring, Safeway started home delivery!!! I order about 3 weeks worth of the heavy stuff (canned goods, cat food, birdseed, kitty litter) so only have to pop in with a tote bag to pick up fruit, vegetables, meat, etc (am WAY too picky to let anyone select them for me!) Another reason the computer has greatly simplified my life!
