I don't think there is anything that you can use which will deter ticks unfortunately, there is one (can't remember the name) but it's toxic to cats I think so that's not much use.

Glad it's just just me, I do like taking the little blighters out with this clever little device!!

Moli - the flea spot on my vet practice now recommends does the worms but not the ticks .... can't have everything it seems.

Frontline was supposed to kill ticks within 24 hours -ish of latching on. We and others on our breed forum found it just didn't work, perhaps it had done so once but is now regarded as pretty ineffective. We can easily lose ticks on Morgan as he's got such a hairy coat and there have been a couple of times when we found a fully engorged and still alive tick on the floor having fed and then dropped off!

We now use a herbal mix called Billy No Mates which is supposed to repel fleas and ticks, we've never had any fleas anyway but we still get a few ticks, not as many as with Frontline though.

BADA-UK sell calendula oil as a natural tick repellent and we've tried that as well, it stains Morgan's white coat a bit and I'm not sure that it's any better than Billy No Mates at deterring the blighters

I'm not sure there's really any alternative to picking them off.

Once you've got them off, if you squish the tick between 2 bits of paper they go pop! Somebody said they put a lit match to the ticks they've removed and that gives a satisfying pop too!

It's from a company called CSJ I buy online from them it's £13 ish for a tub that lasts a long time, you just sprinkle it on their food.

Hi all - thought you'd like an update. Monty and his tick have been separated, all done in the blink of an eye by one of the vet nurses at the practice using a little green crowbar. I have bought a couple home with me!
