More pictures of tabby cats please!!!! Here's one of Merlin - I need to try and get a picture straight on - but you can see his facial markings are symmetrical. |

Thanks Eileen! He's still my lovely boy - just wish he didn't have a wastepaper basket on the top of his head in this picture! |

Not at all, it's quite common in the Oriental breed and especially in spotties with a poor pattern. You often find the spots link up to form a mackeral type pattern. In Oriental's it's a witholding fault, so it wouldn't be something you would be wanting to see on a show cat! |

I agree with Fran. It will have been a poorly marked spotted tabby. This would be a with holding faulty in Persians as well. I would think all the breeds would withold on it as it isn't a well defined pattern. Tabbies are symmetrical in the fact that the same markings should appear on each side but they are not identical on either side. Milo as a tabby and white is essential a tabby cat but the white gene is a masking gene therefore his white is masking the rest of his tabby. |

My only recollection of genetics was Brother Mendel and his wrinkly or non wrinkly peas! Its a lot more interesting when related to animals and I can see the attraction of trying to get a purrrrfect colour and markings. |
