Ah thanks for that. When I manage to photo the other one, hopefully the markings will show up better. Coco has stripes from her head down her neck. Andy |

Beautiful kittens. I would say they are moggy kittens. Many have faint tabby markings which often clear as they get older. The British shorthair is a much heavier cat. |

I have to agree with Dawn on this one. They are too slim built and don't have the profile for the British Shorthair. There can be different shades of black they don't look much like a smoke to me to be honest with you. They are gorgeous little things though. Hope they bring you lots of pleasure. Sarah x |

Black smoke is a colour as everyone as said Sorry but looking at your pics then cats are just normal black with unsound coats - unsound means they fade at the root. Lovely and shiny and mega cute though but not at all like a BSH should be Have attached piccies of a Black Smoke Selkirk Rex - you can see the silver showing through and a Black BSH mature neuter for comparison |

What an interesting expression "unsound coats"! Never heard that before; assume it applies particularly to show cats, but to moggies as well. I love all the new things I learn on Catsey! |

Blacks are probably the latest to get their proper black coat, this is definitely the case in Persians/Exotics. Many Black kittens have a black/grey coat to start with many with the faint tabby markings which are known as ghost markings. Blacks can also appear chocolatey. The Black Smoke is a totally different colour and can never be mistaken for a black. They are beautiful kittens but I would say they are pure bred moggies. |

Your kittens are very cute! One is called Coco, is that right - and what's the other one called??? They are the colour of dark chocolate - my favourite! |

Quote:
many pedigrees breeders particularly in the BSH work hard to get the coats of their cats the same colour to the root - the black neuter above has a totally sound coat - jet black to the roots |
