Re: Diversity in gardens

Ok. Specimen tree, preferably Japanese maple, iris (bearded and Siberian), roses, spring bulbs, and chrysanthemums. Plus a stone bench and a bird bath. Would like a lily pond, but can't have any more plants.... Fun thread! What are your choices?

Must have - my fig tree (in a large pot), bay tree (ditto), cordyline, red trailing geranium (French style), lavender, plus bird bath

Don't want - ornamental cabage, roses, peony, nasturtium, french marigold

Good Lord - its a smashing garden you can see the work that goes into it and love the water lillies. Do you have fish in your pond or is it a wildlife type of pool?

Re: Diversity in gardens

Wildlife pond, Kazz. I love my froggies! Been trying in vain to find one of those thingies for saving the frogs in bad winters: a weighted gadget with an insulated pipe, in which the frogs can take refuge and breathe when the pond freezes. Just can't find a supplier in Holland.

3 years ago we had a dreadful frost and the pond froze solid. I found a pond full of dead frogs, suspended in the ice, cried my eyes out!

Taigie sits on that pile of logs and watches the frogs, for which she has a healthy respect. Every cat in the neighbourhood calls by to drink from the pond - ugh!

Re: Diversity in gardens

Didn't even know there was such a thing as a thing that saves frogs you learn something every day.
There is something about cats and standing water I think, when I had a pond in the other house the cats used to drink from it.Lovely garden.
