Make sure you don't overwater your cactus Random, I never water mine at all through the winter and start in Spring ......... and never let it stand in water or it will rot the roots.

When you repot it, to save the spines sticking into your fingers, fold a piece of paper about one foot long into folds about 2"-3" wide. You can then use this to wrap around the cactus and gently lift it when you repot it.
