In order for the problem to be sorted Mags, more landlords need to be willing to accept pets, that's what I was trying to get at .........

Sadly, boyfriend didn't have a choice, he had to move quickly

Surely the landlord has the right to decide who rents his property?

Re: Petition

Your missing my point RCR, In order for the "problem" to be sorted out, PEOPLE who want pets really need to think about the animals long term future as well as their own.
In the case of your b/f, it's sad when people break up and the animals suffer. Perhaps if your b/f and his ex g/f had discussed (before getting the cat) what would happen to the cat should they break up, then the cat wouldnt have been put into rescue.
Your b/f got the cat and your b/f put it into rescue, how does that make landlords accountable for 50% of cats in rescue?

Re: Petition

I think landlords are right to have the choice of whether they allow animals. As has been said before, its them who are left to clear any mess left by a previous pet owning tennant regardless of how "responsible" that owner believes themselves to be. If you are a pet owner looking for accommodation then it is your responsibility to look for a landlord who is willing to accept pets regardless of breed or spieces.

My OH has also been the situation that him and the ex got 2 cats from the CP but split up a few years later. They however advertised the cats and got them a loving home together. By doing that, they prevented the 2 cats going back into a shelter.

I definately agree that it should be the landlords choice.
