Well, I live in Washington, DC. , preceded by many famous people, The British burned the White House in the War of 1812, and Dolley Madison the president's wife fled by horse and carriage with artifacts from it; Walt Whitman the poet (Leaves of Grass) served in military hospitals tending the wounded during the Civil War; Martin Luther King gave his I Have A Dream speech here,,,this city is so saturated with history I could go on and on....this is an excellent thread; have learned quite a few interesting things I never knew! |
