Put down a saucer or saucers of stale beer for them; they say it works! (Personally, I'd rather drink the beer... )

Seriously, they're not a problem here in my part of the country. I've been gardening most of my life and have never seen a snail! We do have slugs, but not very many; I rarely see one, just the occasional slimy track in the flagstones or sidewalk.
