Re: Some garden pics .....

lol, Mags! What I really need is a squirrel repellant that really works! I've tried all kinds of weird things from garden catalogues, dried blood, coyote urine , but nothing, but nothing works...

Re: Some garden pics .....

what about this Eileen

http://www.critter-repellent.com/squ...-repellant.php

and here's a little article that may help lol

Take My Squirrels---Please!

Steve in Dale City and Katharine in Arlington emailed me mere hours apart with essentially the same question: How to stop squirrels from digging up the potted plants on their respective decks.

Well, first, if you or your neighbors are feeding the squirrels, it has to stop. They don't need the food and so they bury it for the future, you-know-where. They're not eating your plants -- just replacing them with things they prefer -- so spray-on repellants are no help here.

Your best bet is to buy cayenne hot pepper powder in bulk and put a thick mulch of it on top of your soil. At least you'll get even. The motion activated sprinkler known as The Scarecrow would be a more humane solution -- they'd just get splashed with cold water every time they came towards your plantings.

And to commiserate with fellow tree rat targets, visit this wonderful tongue-in-cheek Web site, www.deadsquirrel.com.

Re: Some garden pics .....

Alex, thanks for that hysterical dead squirrel site!! I love it; have bookmarked, am going to post all my tales of woe on it and order one of those cool tees also!! Will even take a pic of me in it proudly displaying my anti-tree rat bias! Seriously, the cayenne pepper works fine in the feeder: the birds are able to enjoy their food now; however it doesn't work for bulbs...Christopher and I tried dusting them with cayenne before planting a few years ago, but apparently the rain diluted it, as most of the bulbs were eaten! Lord spare us from squirrels!!!
