It's still Tuesday over here in the Colonies, so I shall review the exciting events which have filled my day so far. [. . . . . ? . . . . .] All right, there weren't any; but there were a few hum-drum normal events. 1. Grocery store: one pound bacon, one pound ground beef, one package hot dogs, one loaf whole-wheat bread, one jar mayonnaise, one bottle cooking oil, one package popping corn. (I've lots of rice, so the vegetable part is covered.) 2. Video-rental store: Downfall, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, 2005 (interesting film, subtitles white rather than yellow hence difficult to read from across the room); Guerrilla: The Taking Of Patty Hearst, directed by Robert Stone, 2005 (seen this on television but wanted to watch it again); Metropolis, directed by Fritz Lang, 1927 (2002 Kino re-release, best release since film debut). 3. Book: First Man: The Life Of Neil A. Armstrong, written by James R. Hansen (Simon and Schuster, New York, 2005). This is the 768-pages authorized biography; and it's very well written, balanced and fair, thorough to a fault. Thanks to Armstrong's humility and self-effacement, few people in the general population know what an interesting fellow he is. Did you know he wrote and produced musical stage productions whilst at university? I didn't know that, until now. He played the baritone horn, too, in addition to singing. That's just one aspect of the man, another being that he was an experimental test pilot and subsequently flew to the Moon. Cat news: Blue is napping, Tonya is talking to me at great length about something. That's all the news from here, for now. Whee! I lead such an exciting life! =^..^= |
