Re: Red Squirrels

Is it the grey ones that are supposed to be vermin?

Re: Red Squirrels

Yes Mags they are a damn nuisance and have destroyed our Reds, totally decimated the numbers, I would love to see the day the Grey Squirrel is no more in England. They are a non native species.

Re: Red Squirrels

To be honest I think I have only ever seen the grey squirrel....and then not many of them. To me they still look sweet even though I know they have a very bad reputation....

Re: Red Squirrels

The Greys carry and spread the lethal "Parapox virus" the greys are largely immune and even if they get it they survive but it will kill a Red in just a couple of days. They are also much bigger than the Reds, and will kill them in a fight for food, the Reds dont stand a chance. The Greys have albut wiped out the Reds, our beautiful native species, the Greys an American import cause much damage to homes and trees too. I have no qualms in saying I shoot grey Squirrels, the sooner they become extinct here the better, its the only chance we have of saving the precious Reds.

Take a peek here.

Re: Red Squirrels

its a shame really, I dont blame the Grey, its just a Squirrel doing what Squirrels do, its humans again, interferring and bringing stuff we dont need in!
