Maybe its someone who has gotten confused and heard the term tortoiseshell and though/it came out turtle shell instead - could be it could be like a friend of mine she has labs a black and a chocolate, but they also have a Pointer which is "liver" but she insists on calling her "chocolate" much to the annoyance of the breeds owners when they are at a show

Well, I reckon we've narrowed it down to either (most likely) tortoiseshell or a tabby/white with a lot of white, so the tabby sits on its back like a shell.
Doesn't matter - i was just intrigued.
