DM, the trouble with Tesco is that the cover isn't life cover. I must confess to insuring Sidney with Tesco's just for a year as they had an offer of loads of extra clubcard points!!!

I self insure and am convinced that I will be better off financially this way. I put £10 per animal (4 rats and 2 cats) into an ISA every month by standing order. The money goes before I even notice it and also earns me interest being in an ISA. If I ever go through poorer months, I can afford to put a bit less in as I have a fairly healthy balance now. I use this money to pay for anything vet related - including things that wouldn't be covered by insurance and it works really well for us.
