It definitely is a comfort thing left over from nursing days; some of them never outgrow it; Leis is 7 & kneads like fury whn she gets on my lap...my Mom sometimes called it "making bread" whern our old cat did it...as in kneading bread |

Chloe has been very confused as I have bought new cushions for my sofa - now she has four beigy faux fur ones and four cream faux fur ones - she just goes from one to the next and works her way down the sofa purring and kneading them all!!! I always assumed she "pretended" one cushion was her mummy - now she has eight!!! |

Both my cats do it. Syd only does it with cuddly toys!!!?? Freddy does it on people and Syd. Especially does it to Syd and sucks his fur which earns a paw punch, maybe he thinks Syd is his mum. Thought he might have grown out of it but hasn't. |
