Re: Modern times

Yes - the old top-loading single tub with mangle, tongs, hoses etc . . . I remember my Mum's Monday morning washing routine all too well

My 'things' would be:
  • PC, but specifically, internet/electronic communications.
  • Washer/dryer (the dryer element's quite important for me)
  • Air Coniditioning in car (although technically it was available in my Mum's/Grandmother's time - but only in American cars)
  • Satellite Navigation Systems
  • Central Heating - we didn't have it when I lived at home, night storaage heaters only. HOW useless where they????
Things I could live without:
  • TV
  • Mobile phone and another other PDA-type devices
  • MP3 players

Re: Modern times

We used to have a twin tub and I remember the washing tongs. I also remember being jealous of my friend as her parents had a colour TV, ours was black & white! My washing machine broke down last week-end, disaster especially as Adam was off to uni last Wednesday. (Am really missing him, but that's another topic!) He had to go to the launderette and I did some hand washing!!!!! I would really miss a washing machine, oh and a tumble drier, dishwasher, computer and I feel lost without my mobile. How times have changed!

Re: Modern times

I do have to add though - I could, and do, live without an electric kettle!

For my birthday nearly 10 years ago, to co-incide with moving into our house, hubby bought me an Alessi 'Philippe Starck' hob kettle - it's the most lovely peice of product design ever, ever!!

We still have it today - it's as good as new, and I wouldn't swap it for any electric kettle on this planet!!!
