Re: Esther's been speyed

I think it's a very good idea too DM, but as you say it means that they aren't tiny as long for their new owners, but still mad kittens in the brain though lol!

Re: Esther's been speyed

It is good to hear they neuter kittens before rehoming, I wish I could convince either my rescue or their vets, but am surprised they haven't found a vet to do them younger.

Re: Esther's been speyed

I think it is much better for the kittens to get settled in a home at a younger age.

I aslo think 12 / 14 weeks to neuter healthy kittens is too young.

Glad they are all doing ok.

Early age spay/neuter is increasingly common here in the States. Here's an interesting link:

Re: Esther's been speyed

I agree Smudgeley. I think they have enough to contend with with having weaning, vaccinations, leaving mum, settling into a new home and then neutered on top of all that.
Besides they havent even had time properly to develop.
Male cats can take months before their testicles drop so how can they be neutered properly when their testicles arent there makes me wonder

Re: Esther's been speyed

Sarah - some vets will only do early spay on females for that reason. 3 of the local rescues to me all do early spay though, one has been doing it for about 14 years now with no issues from it.

Emily will get done at 12 weeks, but the boys won't be done until 14 weeks or so!
