Re: photos of the chickens

The dog cage inside the chicken pen is where the little ones live. But when we let the big girls into the garden, the little ones get free time in the pen & run. They are getting used to each other, so that when we mix them there will be minimal fighting.

Will you be having chicks then? I would even just one time for the kids, but thats me. A soft touch!
They are blue tinted. We had a chicken before that laid blue eggs (not a LS)

We can't have babies because you need a cockeral to fertilize the eggs & we can't keep a cockeral here - too noisy.
You also need a broody hen who will be happy to sit on a clutch of eggs.

I would love to rear some babies though & the way around it, would be to wait until one of them goes broody (ie sitting on the egg nest being grumpy) then buy some fertile eggs & pop them under her. We may do that one day.

Those are lovely chickens, Smudgley; I always liked the ones my Grandma kept, although they pecked badly when you gathered eggs! I wish I could keep some...here's a silly pic of my chicken ...

I couldn't resist this: got it at a yard sale for 50 cents; reminded me of my Grandma who had one of these!

They look happy enough, but sounds like you've got cockrels there

Oh they are really lovely. I have always wanted chickens, not sure about the dogs though.

Jac, Tesco sell blue eggs, they have such a delicious flavour.
