Re: Miniature cats?

Are there any specific genetic problems with these cat? Is it any more cruel than breeding cats/dogs that can hardly breath because their faces are too flat or cats with no hair or cats with tiny legs it goes on and on. As long as there are people willing to pay for exaggerated features on animals breeders will continue to supply.

I agree Rosie. I am not a fan of any of these things.

It all goes back to money, unfortunately! If there's a market for it, people will breed...

Re: Miniature cats?

The particular mini kitten that I mentioned was given to my boyfriends relative. Not really sure of the circumstances, but if i find out I will let you all know.

Re: Miniature cats?

You can't really improve on the basic design of the ordinary cat....who needs a little miniature thing like that who wouldn't be able to cope if it ever got outside and was lost.....

Re: Miniature cats?

I'm a bit confused about some of the comments coming from pedigree owners.

So much damage is done to even basic genetics of pedigree breeds to get the 'perfect' one. I've seen some bad results of animals who get thrown by the wayside because they didn't come out 'right'. Some breeds suffer very badly with breathing, eyes, and cranial structure because of attempts to 'change' or 'improve' on their normal form.

Breeding sport animals really is no different.

I really don't mean to sound inflammatory and I'm not against pedigrees, I just mean that it's hard to look at those cats and say 'it's not right' when you have very cute evidence right in front of you.

People like what they like.
