Re: Need a new Career

What a shocker, and right before Christmas...

Been there, done that: the company where I worked for 39 years was sold and HQ moved to Baltimore, so we all were laid off...not much fun job-hunting at my age! Try the old girls network so see if there are any job openings that might suit while you're going back to college. That's how I got my next job, a friend knew of an opening.
I assume you have temp agencies there; might sign up with one to keep some cash coming in while you're looking....

Good luck!

Re: Need a new Career

Thanks Eileen,It will all work out it always does, and everything always happens for a reason so maybe leacastle closing is going to be good for me. Ive been wanting to do something else for a while now but not got round to it because you get "comfy" if you know what I mean. Now I have no choice but to get into something else. It will all work out fine

Re: Need a new Career

up date,we have had a staff meeting today.
Our manager has said that a final decission HASNT been made and will be made on the 10th of december, she did say that it does look like its going to close and we will all be offered jobs at Brooklands in Birmingham and the trust will pay our travel for 4 years, but if we didnt take the job then we would get our redundancy.
She said that if it does close it wont be untill June as they have to leave it 90 days and do a public consultation (have no idea what this is or what for) then give us our 90 days notice for our redundancy so that will take us to about June.
She said that the trust will give basic references for us in the future when we apply for other jobs but she is fighting this at the moment as she wants to give us all personal/character references if we need them as she knows us all better than anyone sat in HR,so as much as I have moaned about her in the past she is doing best for all of us bless her.
So its not as bad as we all originally thought,we thought we were going to be out of a job soon after christmas.

That's a relief that you won't have that hanging over your head during the Holidays! And gives you plenty of time to research oppprtunities!
