Re: Do you own a Furkid?

Oli is my baby! He is very spoilt by myself and my OH. I think we do treat him like a child because we never leave him for long periods of time and he stops with family if we go away for a weekend. We havent actually had a proper holiday ever, but I think if we do go away we will probably have someone stop at the house to look after him.

I worried about going away the first time and cried all the way to the cattery (which I spent weeks looking for) and cried all the way home but once I got the first one out of the way ( and knew I had found a good carer) I have been fine. He is my world and actually got more loving when he came back from the cattery like I was his recuer (can't spell that)

Re: Do you own a Furkid?

I've mentioned occasionally on here that I don't do holidays, so maybe gave the impression that it was because of the cats. No, I simply dislike traveling! I want to sleep in my own bed at night; odd, perhaps, but just don't like it, that's
just weirdo me! I will admit I've told people sometimes when I wanted to get out of a planned excursion that it was because I didn't want to leave the cats, that was an excuse....

I have never read that about you Eileen. That's not wierd that you don't like to travel, that's you. we are all different and that makes up a good world. x I love to travel and did worry about leaving my cat beofre hand and I read somewhere (may have even been in cat confidential) that owners are wierd and treating their animals like children if they don't want to go on holiday cos of them. That stopped me in my tracks and I think I always went out of my way to say I wasn't that person...I hated going to work when I first got Denis cos I didn't like to leave him on his own, in the past they were really my mums cats you see so someone was always at home with them.

Re: Do you own a Furkid?

All my animals are my babies they are all spolied rottern and I will go without if there is something that they need.I dont go without holidays though or nights out but if ever anything was ever wrong with any of them when I was due to travel or go out then my plans would be cancelled,my babies come first.Yes I do say I treat my animals like babies (the cats more so than the dogs) so do I have furkids?.........Yes 5 absolutely gorgeous one,who I wouldnt be parted with for all the money in the world

Re: Do you own a Furkid?

Interesting discussion My cats are like surrogate children to me because I can't have any but to be honest, if I could, I don't think I would anyway.

They mean the world to me, I baby them, worry about them, talk to them, love them, but I think that is just being a good pet owner.

They are my babies and I would do anything for them - but I know they are cats at the end of the day and treat them accordingly We do go away and leave them with people checking in on them but not that often as I am another who doesn't like travelling much.

I don't think I am OTT but my husband might disagree

People will poke fun at anyone whose actions they don't understand and I love the term Furbaby or Furkid as it is so apt.

But I don't treat them like humans (IMO cats are far nicer than most humans!).

I have read all the replays in this and to me they all say the same thing.
