I'd never laugh at anyone's phobia; it's not funny. We have some common one here: snakes, spiders, heights; also some unusual ones like polystyrene, feathers, and now pomegranates. Who knows what triggered them: they're real to us! |

Boys mum, Thats like my phobia, lots of little things clustered together! Ughhhh! When I did my first pumpkin I had the shock of my life when I saw all those seeds together ewwwwwww. *SHIVERS* I have to say I absolutely love snakes lol. My mum also hates them, I kept saying im gonna get one as a pet after I did my animal care course lol, she was scared. I dont mind spiders either, as long as i use a glass and a piece of paper to get rid of them im fine lol. |

Tink, I can relate to your fear of costumes. I don't fear them, but I find puppets, clowns and the types of costumes you mention (the ones with the big heads) most unnerving. My setp-daugther has a serious horror of clowns, and again, it's one of those quite rational (in my opinion) phobias. My fear stems from (so I've been told - and I think I have a vague recollection of it) when I was about 3 and waiting to cross a road with my Mum. A pigeon's tail was run over by a car infront of us - the bird was OK but the feathers flew all over me. I guess it has such an impact that feathers, birds and - to a lesser extent - anything fluttery like butterflies, I try to avoid. |

I was talking to a fellow Italian student this morning as part of an exercise .... "va in piscina?" "do you go to the swimming pool?". She said that she did not, neither did she go near the sea - she has a phobia of water and tried taking swimming lessons to cure herself, but to no good. She says that she thinks that she had a frightening experience as a child, but cannot remember it. Do you think that individual's phobias are triggered when we are very young, but because it is so scary for us, we forget what caused it? |

I just remembered something else (its not nesseserily a phobia... I dont think!) but I HATE any Wasps or Bees, I know Bees dont harm you but its the noise, it makes me freeze up. When I was about 6 I had my hands up holding the washing line for some strange reason, then when I put my arms down a Wasp was under my arm and it stung me. Ive only been scared of them more in the last 5 years. Last year I was lying on the bed with my mum n all of a sudden I jumped n just froze lying down, my mum said whats up? as she thought Id had a fit!!! I said there's a wasp in the room... A few minutes later I realised it was a lawnmower out side!!! Lol it was quite funny. |
