Thanks all. Tate is going back to the vets tomorrow so they can check on his eye. I will have a word with them as to where we go from here with regards to the heart murmur. I will let you all know what they say. |

Well Tate had his check up this morning. Ceri, the vet, says his eye appears to be healing well but she won't be able to tell until the stitches come out in another fortnight. She has given him some metacam just in case he is in pain as he does flinch quite a bit. She listened to his heart again and let me listen. The murmur is very pronunced. I have decided to have Tate neutered in a fortnight when he has his stitches out. Ceri is also going to do some x-rays and scans at the same time so I should have more news then. |

Glad to hear all is going well with Tate's eye. I hope the op goes well and that you are able to find out more about the murmur and possible treatments. |

Oh my gosh, how did I miss this Kay I'm so sorry poor Tate is so unwell. Hopefully his eye's now on the mend and the heart murmur can be treated successfully. But I can understand your worry and also the fact that he's going to be taking it easy from now on. Big hugs to you both. |

Thanks Fran, Yola and Charlie. I will pass on the hugs to Tate. He is sulking at the moment as Ruby has just gone for him. She eventually got used to him with the collar on but when I took it off she didn'e recognise him again. I dispair of these Persians. Hopefully the murmur can be treated with beta-blockers. The vet says it is most probably HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy). There is a DNA test for this but unfortunately it is only for Maine Coons and Ragdolls at present. Hopefully that will change soon as apparently long-haired cats are more prone to HCM than short haired. |

Well Tate has been for his second check up before next weeks op and it hasn't gone well. Ceri checked his eye and unfortunately it has gone worse. One of the stitches has come away and under the third eyelid it looked awful. She called Jill in who is an eye specialist and she said because Tate has already had one previous op on the eye and several ulcers/ sequestras his eye is very thin. The eye is now near the point of rupture and his only option is to put a contact lense in and re-stitch the third eyelid over it. If this doesn't work or they find it isn't possible due to the condition of his eye he will have to have his eye removed. They have kept him in overnight and will operate first thing in the morning. They are going to neuter him as well. |
