Re: Monday madness

I'm with Angie on this, without family it's simply not the same. I too will be glad when it's over and things get back to normal; sorry if that sounds bah, humbuggy....

Internet grocery shopping is the greatest thing since sliced bread IMO, a lifesaver for us oldies who don't drive. My order is coming the 24th.

BITTER weather here: sunny but the Arctic air is in place...it's -7 with a wind chill of -19! Hasn't been this cold in years; had on two pairs of socks, long sleeved thermal underwear, heavy hoodie, sweatpants, wool hat, fleece lined jacket and still almost froze waiting for the bus! Roll on Spring!

Stay warm and dry, all....

Re: Monday madness

Ugghh! Sometimes I really hate people!
Had a father and his kids bring in a bunny this afternoon, saying it's head had suddenly swollen overnight. On examination, it had a huuge abscess the encompassed the whole side of it's head and her eye, it had obviously been there for a long time. It also had horrendous urine scalding to it's back legs and feet, to the point she had open sores. We put the poor thing out of her suffering but it makes me so angry that people could do this to a pet and the message the parents are giving their children about pet care
Can't get her poor little face out of my head Sorry to bring this up on here but just needed to vent!

Oh Liz, that's awful. Probably one of the reasons I could never do the wonderful job that you do. I just don't have the tact

Karen, your folks have moved in? That's brave!! My Mum stays with me for a few days and we're ready to kill each other! Thankfully we always make up really quickly - blood really IS thicker than water Still, it's a big step for all of you - how do they feel about it? Lots of mixed feelings; being a burden, loss of privacy, loss of independence . . . I guess you've all discussed it and considered all the pros and cons (I'm sure you have).

Oh Liz, that's simply sickening, poor bunny. What an example for their children!

Re: Monday madness

afternoon, all. i had a heck of a time getting up today. OH left the fireplace on and i'm still drowsy from all the warmth..still really trying to wake up actually..don't you hate it when you wake up like a zombie and the coffee pot is empty and your skull feels too numb to make a pot so early? LOL...that was me today.
pipes in garage still frozen..will prob thaw out christmas eve or christmas day if weather report is correct which is not what i wanted as we won't be home for it if i do travel to my parents house!
i love the idea of christmas as my parents also used to make a big deal out of it but now that i'm 28 (29 next month) it's lost a bit of its charm. i guess it's because now i deal with the traffic, worrying about the house in the weather, driving, and around holidays WE are always the ones to travel to others which always makes it a little more stressful than just getting to stay at home. i guess when i was a child and everything "magically fell into place" with no effort on my part it was of course more enjoyable, LOL.
now i worry about budgets and money and other adult things and it doesn't hold so much mystique. and i'm a little stressed about leaving all the furkids alone in the house all day while we're gone...i'll probably be thinking of them the whole time.
anyway, got a bit more snow..last night had one of those strange white sky nights where everything just glows and you're not sure what time it must be because it looks like dawn/dusk rather than evening.
OH is a scrooge and i overheard him on the phone yesterday talking about when a package would arrive..he said it was super secret and looked at me wryly...i'm baffled and surprised as he does not celebrate christmas that it seems there is something on its way for me!
hope you all have a good day, i'm trying to wake up and will do the same non exciting things indoors today.

Jst read this , and forgive me if you have already tried this, but we had a rabbit with a abscess in her mouth, it was cleaned out, but the vets were not very hopeful, baytril didn't even shrink it.
We tried betamox, which is a penicillin based drug, and she was injected every 2 days for 7 weeks. She is still here and the abscess is gone, she did have a little flair up a couple of months after but we put her on a 3 week course and she has been fine again. I know it may happen again, but some rabbits can be kept on it for life. We also had her on manuka honey and gave fibreplex to support her gut function. The penicillin drug, must be injected sub-cut and in a place where the rabbit cannot lick it as these drugs taken orally can cause serious stomach upsets.
I can understand however why PTS may have been the best option for this rabbit however, because the owners were either very inattentive or uncaring to let it get to that stage. We have 12 rabbits, all rescues, and even though rabbits are the 3rd most popular pet, they also seem to be one of the most neglected.

It's so true Farthing-people buy rabbits as pets without any thought into the care they need, I'm sure they are seen as 'disposble' pets. I personally would never own a bunny as I don't feel I would be able to give it all the care and stimulation they need.
In this bunny's case, I really feel that PTS was the only option-the abscess was the size of an orange and bunny was barely alive-I'm sure she had been unable to eat for quite sometime
