The Bishop of Croydon said some derogatory things about Christmas carols last week - too much Victorian sentimentality. I read this article about some of the things he said and it did make me think ............. he wasn't being all Baa Humbug either. |

Well, far be it for me to criticize the Bishop of Croyden but .... bah humbug! IMO there's nothing wrong at all with a little Victorian sentimentality at Christmas time, God knows, we get enough reality with the wars, the recession, the pandemic and all the other assorted bad news... I'll take some sentimentality. |

I suppose my concern is mainly with how it is explained to the little 'uns - not having had children myself. I was quite clear that the Nativity and Santa Claus were two different things, but from that article I can see that the Bishop might be suggesting that children see it all as "a complete package". I wonder if he has children? I am sure that Christian parents make sure their children know the difference, but what about the others? |
