I've never done a thing to mine Mags I plant them then leave them alone really maybe I am a cruel 'owner' but I figure they'll live, they are hardy things; some years the 'acer' has been really blown about by the cold winds but he always comes back. As yours is in a tub though make sure the 'compost/dirt' in the tub doesn't get frozen/cold damp that will kill the root and he has no chance in a tub maybe put some fleece around the tub his roots or something. when I had the little acer 'jnr' in a tub when he was tiny I brought him down close to the house.

I can't do origami either Kazz! the service took longer than anticipated as it wasn't easy to do, but good fun! The purpose was to thread all the origami peace cranes together as a sign of peace as it is the anniversary of the nuclear bomb on Hiroshimo(sp). We had lots of Japanese visitors in church today as they were on an exchange visit. Our church isn't very traditional. We have lots of young people attend, (many from Loughborough University) and it is very lively and happy and the music is fab!

Oops, nearly forgot to say GOOD LUCK for the competition Kazz. If your photos are anything to go by I would say you a in with a very good chance!

I have mine in tubs, as its so cold up here in the winter, do you think I should put mine in the greenhouse, it will be kept frost free but not too warm?

It was the 6th of August 1945 wasn't it. Sad but I imagine at the time they thought it was the right thing to do - one of my Aunt's husband was a POW of the Japanese during WWII he was in the 148th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery and was captured in Singapore. He was a gunner and only 21 when he was captured he worked on the Burma railway. He wasa POW from 1942-45.
He met a Japanese man who came over to talk and meet POW. Some of the men went to Japan I believe to talk to the Jpanese people and children my Uncle in law was too poorly then but he did say 'although he forgave the japanese he would never forget'
He weighed only 5 stone, 3 pounds. but had weighed over 14 stone at the beginning of the war. It was November 1945 when he sailed back to England, he'd been married 5 years and seen his wife for 2 months. He always said the bomb saed his life he and many other would have died if they had been there much longer.

But pleased you eventually managed to make the chains, peace would be a fitting tribute to every solider I would think.
