I was thinking maybe start with a 'chest' - like a child's toy box or blanket box or similar. It's big enough for the tray at one end and the 'pop-hole' at the other and room for puss to sort him/herself out whilst still inside.
Then you just raise the lift up top for cleaning access.

I don't think so Donna. I think they are meant to be instead of the hood.
