Yes they are vaccinated against Myxi, but never been offered a VHD vacc :/ However, if they manage to come through the next few weeks unscathed, then I shall book them in to have this done too. The rabbits aren't at the same vet as my cats and guinea pigs are at, as this vet was cheaper for the rabbits vaccs, but I now wonder if my usual vet offers the VHD and this could explain the price difference. I will check this out tomorrow. Thanks for all your help Donna. |

Unfortunately many vets do not know much about rabbits. They see so many cats and dogs and thats about it. Anything else and its mainly guess work! I nearly found out to my cost when one of my rabbits was ill in May this year. My usual vets said the bunny had to be put to sleep. I saw a specialist rabbit vet (who was actually cheaper than my original vet) and my bunny is just tucking into her breakfast this morning as I type.. if I had listened to my usual vet my bunny would not be with me today.. Sorry to read about you rabbit, I have lost a couple to sudden deaths, no hint that anything was wrong. It has been suggested it could have been pneumonia or a heart condition, mine are vaccinated for VHD so it wasn't that. I would certainly recommend getting the VHD ASAP. It was said VHD wasn't up here until a local rescue lost over half its rabbits ( about 30) and did some PM's. The number of people rushing to the vets to get it done was scary, and most of them had never heard of it until the rescue's outbreak was in the news. |

spoke to my other vet today, and she has said that as we have to wait and see if the other bunnies are ok, then I could either take them in in a week or so to have them done for VHD or wait until the end of December when they are due their boosters for myxi, so will decide over the next few days when hopefully both girls will be ok. |

ah, thank you for that Donna  I'm thinking then that if they come through this ok, then I'll get the VHD done at the beginning of december, then the myxi booster at the end. Just keeping everything crossed that both girls come through this ok and that it was perhaps age/heart problems with Onyx. But they will definitely get the VHD done as well now to be on the safe side. |
