Re: Dog Owners....

OMG thats shocking. Poor children. If that was my dog like Fran said I would take it to the vet myself and have it PTS.

Did the hospital not say tha they would have to send a report to the police? Under the circumstances I'm sure you could have the dog pts. Its dangerouse and out of controll and its biten a child!
Years ago a dog was allowed 3 bites then pts. The laws are alot stricter now. If it hasnt been reported do it now.

I hope the children recover soon.

Re: Dog Owners....

This must be a police matter????????

Yes, sadly, once I had finished being totally mortified at what had happened, buying the kids 'I'm sooooooooooo sorry' presents etc, the dog would be pts. And I would take it to the vet and stay with it and cry when it was pts.

We don't know the whole story - maybe there was provocation, maybe the dog had a tumour or a biochemical brain thing, maybe the hot weather made it snap (I don't think dogs do too well in the heat), maybe it was totally confused and scared by something. Sadly we can't psychoanalyse dogs, or ask them what provoked them - we have to take the permanent way out. This dog may never ever do anything like that again ..... or it may kill or disfigure a small child. I wouldn't take the risk.

Yes, CP speaks as one .... on a dog issue - how ironic!

I was thinking that as well. Doesn't remove the brunt of the responsibility of the neighbour, though. If your dog goes balistic in the garden "barking and growling", then as an owner you should at least be on hand to investigate, no?

I have very lively and boisterous pup (a very big pup!) but I know she would never bite anyone.

Like I said, depends if the dog was provoked into doing what he did.
The children did not provoke the dog. They were unaware of it in the garden at first until it started trying to get over the fence. They were just playing outside minding their own business.

The dog owners just had a go back at the boys father so dont think they are gonna be any help to be honest.

and send a copy of it to the Chairman of your local Community Safety Partnership (phone the local council - they will tell you name/address)

To be honest there are alot of Dog webbers here. I am one and any "responcible" dog owner would have a dog like that PTS. Whether it was the hot weather that made the dog "snap" or not.
Unfortunatly you have to ask, do you now trust this dog? Obviously not. There is only one answer
