Of course I know when kids are being bullied, are troubled, lonely, black sheep, etc. It's my job to know.

No, about banks. Banks have to have reserves and, per country, they have to be able to guarantee restitution of customers' deposits up to a a certain limit. I know what the limit is in Holland, and I dare say it's similar in the UK. My savings are safe. If I were very wealthy indeed, i would have to spread my dosh among a number of banks to have it all guaranteed.

So you are saying that in the uk if I paid for something out of my bank (say a cheque) if it went wrong (the transaction) that I would be covered for a proportion of what I have paid??

Sigh - that is like asking someone when he stopped beating his wife.

I know a troubled child when I see one, and as a councellor, I can nearly always get a child to tell me what's going on.

I also have eyes in my head, both in the classroom, in the school grounds and canteen and at school parties.

I can also see perfectly happy and well-socialised 'deprived' children flourishing in the school communtiy without the right brand-names on their clothes and shoes.

I suggest you use the quote facility, I'm not sure what part of which message you are questioning.

I am told UK credit card companies have to cover the full amount in cases of bankruptcy. The holder of a card can also cancel any payment when the bill comes in if the goods were not delivered or were damaged.

Bank deposits are guaranteed up to a certain limit. This means you cannot lose your savings.

Re: Farepak

Correct on the credit cards, but we have no cover if we pay for goods on cheque/bank transfer and also debit cards.

Also some of the people which Farepak have fleeced I am sure couldn't get credit facilities.

I thought anyone could get a credit card!

No, banks don't cover for this sort of thing, that's why I pay C.O.D. I've got a credit card, but have never found occasion to use it in all the years I've had it.

My banking card can be used in the shops and restaurants (though not abroad) in the same way as a creditcard, except that the money is transfered the next day, rather than the end of the month, as with credit cards.

Re: Farepak

No not everybody can get a credit card in the UK, we have to be credit scored and if your credit score is not good enough (and this can be of no fault of your own - say bad credit history at your new address, never having credit before) then they will not give you a card.
