Re: Emma's proposed new garden

Sundance are lovely shrubs and red robin, and for winter dogwood is gorgeous - colour wise winter interest. Maybe a corkscrew hazel too?.

Re: Emma's proposed new garden

One thing I'd add to Kim's cottage garden assortment is old fashioned single hollyhocks, not the doubles...give height to the back of the border. Not familiar with the monkey puzzle tree..will Google. Willows do root very readily from cuttings; good idea! An overhead view would be helpful trying to relate where the pictures are... I'm not too good at spatial things .... can't figure out where one picture relates to the other, if you see what I mean...

They are a bit pricey on that site Mags!!! my local garden centre was selling them for about £15 for one that was about 1.5 feet tall.

How about a tree fern? they are becoming more and more hardy.
And if you want a monkey puzzle tree but concerned how bu
ig they grow why not put one in a large large tub or have a tub/wooden box built for it restrist the growth? and won't damage root wise to your drains?

Kazz I am not overly bothered about the size of the Monkey Puzzle, my next door neighbour has a twisty willow and it must be about 50-60 foot high, as long as it is at the end of the garden

In that case woman plant one I like them maybe not in my garden but I like to see them they are so "enthralling" may be the word, I pass one on one of my walks and always stop to stare.
