Re: Miniature cats?

One of my cats is tiny (but is all in proportion, unlike those poor miniatures)... She was unwanted by a local farmer, but she looks very much like a Russian Blue, except in 'mini'! She's 14, and sleeps on my pillow, and everyone loves her! Sad to see cats actually bred with such tiny legs. It must affect their leaping skills. Let's hope none of them ever have to run away from a dog etc!

Re: Miniature cats?

our bengal is on the small side, everyone who sees her is surprised shes not bigger than she is, hubby thought she was going to be a big stocky cat from all we had read on them and was a bit dissapointed when she stopped growing, on the other hand our 4 month old white kitten is and always has been small, if we went by the vets estimated age for him it would mean he was only a week old when we first saw him and we know thats not right, we have been told to take him back for a check up at the end of november when they will decide if they think hes ready for neutering as they said if we do it too soon he will stop growing, hubby likes the size he is now and said wouldn't it be nice if he stayed this size but when he thought about it again he agreed with me that we want him as big as we can, give me a big stocky healthy looking cat anytime.

Re: Miniature cats?

My Mother used to have a cat called Tiny, that was stolen and then retrieved twice, by people who thought she was a kitten. She was, in fact, fully grown but kitten-sized.

My cat Honey is six months old, and doesn't seem like he's going to grow much more, simply because he looks kitten-ish. He just has a cute little face, and a cute little body. However, his tail is absolutely huge, and his size is deceptive because he's a bloody long cat.

I don't see why anyone would purposely breed for a miniature cat. They're all different shapes and sizes, and that's part of what makes them great. They're not like dogs as much, with breeds that have very specific sizes. If you get a kitten, it's size is often a mystery until it's an adult, and that makes things more fun.

Big and small cats alike are great. I often thought that smaller cats weren't as cuddly as great honking cats, but Honey has proven that to be false.

Re: Miniature cats?

Singapuras are a naturally small breed, but don't look at all kittenish as adults. They look deceptively "fragile", especially with the large expressive eyes, but are surprisingly heavy and muscular, and as tough as old boots! And a very intelligent breed! Dandy was large for a Pura .... 8 1/2 pounds.
