We do Eileen - we don't have a paper alternative any more. The lowest denomination paper money is £5.00

Yikes! The Treasury keeps suggesting doing away with the paper one dollar but there is such a public outcry that they haven't done it yet!

I may be wrong, but I think the last £1.00 note was withdrawn in 1988 - so we've been 20 years without them!

The £1 coin was introduced in 1984....

I find the coin much better, the old notes used to get so tatty and dirty...

I wish they would get rid of the 1p coin, I find them more of a hindrance....

Needs must...Imagine, a whole generation has grown up never knowing the convenience of the paper bill! Mags, the Treasury has also suggested doing away with the penny coin here, but once again a great public groundswell of opposition ....
we don't like people messing with our money!

I still miss the farthing (a quarter of an "old" penny!) because I liked the little wren on the back!
