Re: Ironing - love it OR hate it what do you iron?

I don't iron sheets as they're the stretchy kind that smooth out once on the beds. Duvet covers, towels, tea towels, pillow cases and all clothes apart from undies and socks get done.

I have a 'Stirella Simac' (Italian I think), steam generating jobbie, again with the water tank separate from the iron.

Excellent for . . . ahem . . . steaming through the ironing very quickly!!

I hang the laundry outside to dry, in the basement when it's inclement weather, and it doesn't get all that wrinkly. Not having a dryer I don't know, but I suspect it would make things more inclined to wrinkle being all bunched up like that...???

Re: Ironing - love it OR hate it what do you iron?

I dont iron anything!... my husband does it all!
mind you i am very anal about how i hand washing out to dry... so i do my bit by making the clothes easier for him to iron...
he actually enjoys doing it... he pops on a music dvd and off he goes...
he has done it since before we were married...when we were going out i thought i would do him a favour by ironing his police shirts... and he said to me... dont worry... i'll do them ... i like them a certain way... and i told him.... ive never got in trouble for the way i iron my own police shirts.... but hey... if you want to iron yours... you can and whilst you're at it... you can iron mine .... and whilst you're doing that... you may as well do the rest of the ironing!... He did and he has since!

Re: Ironing - love it OR hate it what do you iron?

What an amusing thread, this is what i love about this forum you can talk about everything and anything.
I quite enjoy ironing if i'm in the mood, i have a coffee and listen to music whilst i do it. I save it up in a cupboard for approx 2 weeks. I iron jeans, some t shirts if needed, the odd skirt and shirts but thats once in a blue moon as hubby doesn't realy wear them.
I don't make a fuss though because i also find that the more i iron the more creases it gets with some items.
I find the tumble dryer reduces my ironing if i get the stuff out as soon as it's finished and fold it.
My iron is a Tesco value steam one £4.99

If between ironing a shirt and a pair of socks, you find yourself with nothing to do, can I recommend you type "extreme ironing" into Google Images????

I wasn't joking! There are some EXTREMELY strange people around!!!!!

I'm with Dandysmom - if it needs ironing, I don't buy it!

Hiya I agree this was a thread waiting to be born.....my weapon of choice is Tefal Aquaspeed

But one of my favourite passtimes....isdry ironing shirts preferably...with spray statrch. I have an old dry iron (electric) that makes a rewarding hissshhhh when applied to cotton when sprayed previously with starch....and the smell is divine as well. Crip cotton

Thought I'd add that I recently stopped ironing OH's shirts. I hate them at the best of times and now the boys are in school shirts (which admitedly require only a quick iron), I've told OH he can do his own!

Re: Ironing - love it OR hate it what do you iron?

Love this thread! As a bar person, Avon lady and domestic cleaner/gopher/ and ironer for people who pay me to do so (and they are all lovely people I get spoiled rotten with cream cakes biccies and cups tea) I only iron when I get paid to do so. I somehow have never made any ironing myself, even with two children (now grown up) okay my ex husband had his shirts but my current bf loves ironing so whey hey, sorted. I know people iron pants, socks, tea towels, - why?? I used someone s super duper steam iron the other week when I was doing a bit of ironing to help her catch up - it was AMAZING - got me looking in town when I went the next week and they are about £90 (the sort that has a seperate water chamber) - I was so tempted until my bf reminded me I dont need one as I dont do ironing for myself . Silly me, tempted by gadgets again. . . (Hey, maybe I would start ironing then.) Jan x
