9 in the house at the moment, but only 4 are mine, 1 is my father's and one is my sister's and 3 are going to their new homes very soon.

I have two. Which is plenty for me!!! If they got on I might be tempted to have more, but dont think I would stand having three cats in my house that didnt like each other!!!

Two that tolerate each other is enough (plus I have the bunnies to look after too).

It might distract them, Donna! Patches and Misty just tolerated one another; but when Dandy came he loved them both, especially Misty! She ended up being sort of his mum, which gave her less time to be annoyed with Patches!
