Re: Leia is hyperthyroid

The meds finally came (delivered to another tenant's mailbox in error!). But to my surprise I need gloves to apply the gel to the ear; have ordered some but they haven't come yet. I've been stroking her ears to get her used to them being touched and she doesn't seem to mimd ....... yet!

Re: Leia is hyperthyroid

I guess it would stand to reason Eileen - if the medication is absorbed through the skin, you'd be getting the medication too if you didn't wear gloves.

That's not a bad idea though is it? If people and animals with a similar condition could be treated at the same time by one applying gel or cream to the other

Re: Leia is hyperthyroid

No, the gloves came and she's getting the medication; I have to sneak up on her in the afternoon while she's having her nap and dab it quickly in her ear. Apparently it smells bad, as she makes the wrinkly nose squinty eye expression!

She seems fine, always has, you'd never know she was hyperthyroid as she doesn't exhibit any of the common symptoms, although I suppose the blood work is definitive.

glad Leia has started on her meds Eileen, maybe she doesn't display symptoms because it has been caught early

"Tolerates". but dislikes and will wiggle away if I don't get the gel in in one quick swoop! She wasn't as sleepy as I thought when I tried a bit ago; she zipped out of reach so I'm waiting for her to go back to sleep and try again .....

Re: Leia is hyperthyroid

Fingers crossed that Leia is getting enough medication to reduce her T4. Did they do T3 levels too?
