Re: Tatoos

Donna - I still find I get quite shocked by them. Yesterday one of the guys that works for me wore a short-sleeved top and he had a tatoo on his forearm and I just couldn't stop looking at it!! Maybe that's why I've been hesitating all these years; I find them fascinating, alluring yet slightly 'naughty'. I suppose I'm just a bit old fashioned

Smudgely - yours is quite noticable and in a visible place, I can see why you could possibly regret it (btw, you don't look miserable, just pouty , which is different). I don't think I'd have the courage to put a tatoo on my arm. My reckoning is that at the base of my spine it'll only be seen if I wear low-slung trousers. As I rarely/if ever go swimming that's not an issue and the only other person/people to see it would be hubby/child(ren).

Emma - those colours are pretty. However do they 'dirty down' with time, coz if I went for vibrant colours I'd want them to stay like that rather than these nasty ones you see around the place.

Re: Tatoos

I have a tattoo but no pics of it as far as I know. It is a black scorpion on my right shoulder and confuses a lot of people as they expect a female to have a rose, or flower or somethign like that!!! I had wanted a black scorpion with red eyes for ages, but couldn't decide where - then I bought a dress for an x-mas do and it suddenly came to me to have it on my shoulder - I can cover it for work, and show it off when I want to, and at the mo my hair also covers it. It didn't get the red eyes though, as I would have had to have it bigger and I was too much of a chicken for that!! I used to be able to get little jewels to put on it, but not been able to find them in red for ages.

Re: Tatoos

I'm not a fan of tattoos, but that one is really elegant Yola and I think it would look good. My OH has a tattoo on his arm with my name on, very flattering, but I've never really liked it - just as well we didn't split up!!

Edited to say that my son (he's 1 wants a small tattoo and thought I would object - not at all - it's up to him and I really think that some of them can look really good.

Re: Tatoos

Check the tattooists certificates, tehy all have to have one, and most will put up them up on the walls.

I design tattoos, mostly for my self but sometimes for other people.

You can have tattoos these days in any colour you like, and you dont have to have a black outline either, but.... you DO have to find a VERY good tattoo artist.

Not all tattooists are artists as well, there are a lot of old skool tattooists who can copy a design sure, but they cannot draw, they are not artists in that sense.

Pick a good un, a VERY good one will discuss what you want, look at pictures that inspire you and draw something up for you. That doesnt come cheap, but over the course of a lifetime, it works out pretty economical in the end.

Em - who has a lot of tattoos.

Re: Tatoos

Em - thanks for that great information. My only worry with the cat pic is that it's vertical and a horizontal image would be better for the base of the spine I think. We have a very good tatooist in Reading (recommended by everyone), but he's just that - a tatooist who will copy rather than create. I did pluck up enough courage to to into his shop once, but I found him rather unhelpful so that put me off.

Would you mind if I contacted you closer to the time I'm looking to have the tatoo (autumn/winter this year), to see how much you'd charge for a cat design?
