Re: New member of the family??

Some one on here is too clever. And her counterpart with the lovely torti is catching on quick.

Re: New member of the family??

Well you've got it now you won't get any closer.

If you recall my Uncle Arnie has gone into care, well we have now emptied his house taken us months and months and now we have found a buyer. So I have asked for and now going to get tomorrow the rose tree that was in my G.Uncles garden or so Uncle Arnie said when he was well. It has been in Uncle Arnies front garden for about 40 45 years ago (approx) no idea how long roses live my G.uncle died in 1969 aged 73 so no idea before that all I know is this poor rose tree has not been pruned for a good few years. So not sure if he will survive the journey or the digging out but he will be ripped up if I don't as the new owners I am sure will take him out and replace the porch with one that stands up.

Re: New member of the family??

We had an old fashioned rose in one of our gardens, and they reckoned it was 40 years old...

Re: New member of the family??

The modern hybrids are gorgeous but require lots of coddling. The older varieties, which I'm sure this one is, are very hardy and can live for many years even with minimal care. There was an old Pauls Scarlet climber at my house in '65 when I bought it that was obviously very old; it lived and bloomed until last Summer when the workmen accidentally cut it down......so it was at least 60+ years. If you dig this one with a big root ball it should survive and thrive with your TLC! Do you my any chance know the name of it, or at least the variety?
