Dinner too! He knows a nice home and family when he sees one! You're much more ethical about finding an owner than I was... three days after Misty was with me I went around and took down the posters; she was my girl! |

I know that an "owner" may not deserve to have a nice cat, but the fact is, he IS a nice cat. He and Pip have been eating from the same bowl, he does not bite nor scratch and has obviously been well socialised - therefore he has had a caring owner at some time in his life. He also seems quite at ease with Kizzy and Pip, with a house and people. My worry is that someone, somewhere is missing him and is worried about whether he is still alive or has had a horrid accident. That is how I would feel if he had been mine. |

Unless he hopped in a van and is miles and miles from home or was dumped, it seems that someone in the area would recognize him; also, there aren't any Lost Cat Posters up or notices at the vet..... |

It's a difficult shout Angie . . . if you look at the reverse scenario you have Nette/Posh . . . so yes, there is often a desperate owner somewhere who probably loves their cat despite not having it neutered. However, as with my Ferdy there could be the option of an elderly owner who has simply died. I'm certain Ferdy lived in the flat behind us; above the Bridge club. Infact, I'll put money on him sitting on the window sill in the early days we were here. I know the old chap that lived there passed away . . . Ferdy (before he became Ferdy and was simply blackcat), was never far from that house. I did the thing with the collar and message but never got any response. I do actually think you are doing the right thing in trying to trace a potential owner. |

I think with cats the break through was the microchip...a Godsend I think but other than that a cat could have travelled less than 1/4 mile and you will never know where they came from I mean look at Posh.....but for the son? You never know I would get him .....checked for microchip and if nothing get him snipped. If he stays he stays if he goes he goes...........but I think he will be a stayer. The way you write about Squiffy reminds me of the cat from the book "STRAY!" by A.N. Wilson, Pufftail. |

Oh and my Oz wandered far and wide and I swear he had a few people who looked out for him but as he was so independant not a chance of him moving in with someone else. But I think trying to find the owner is the right thing. But the number of cats that change homes of their own free will it appears is greater than we imagine I think. |

It's actually proving an interesting experience on it's own merit - I chatted to a chap I'd not met before this afternoon and this evening I have sent an email to the owner of a website for the local "big" village, that we are a hamlet of. Didn't know it existed before! Of course, the prospect of an owner who has died is a possibility, but I always would associate that more strongly in the case of an older animal - like the one my friend in Southsea has taken in. In that case, the cat was microchipped and the vet did all possible to make contact but with no response. Squiffy has a home somewhere - a cat doesn't get to be that well mannered without having had a good upbringing! |

He could be passing through and with regard to an owner for all we know he was a kitten dumped taken in by a person loved cared for and some reason the cat is now homeless/out an about any of the following could have occured...divorce/death/injury/eviction/prison/care home..............the list is endless and as Squiffy ain't talking its a guessing game.................or simply the owner moved house and Squify decided he would too. |
