Parvo is a virus which can be quite serious in puppies. It causes severe diarhhoea and can cause fatalities. Dogs that are vaccinated will be protected from it. Pups can be vaccinated against Parvo as young as 6 weeks of age. Both my dogs are fully vaccinated. Smudgley, might be able to give you more info. I have no personal experience of Parvo. |

Apparantly yes, cats can get a feline version of Parvo although I have no experience of this either so don't know very much about it.. I think vaccinated cats are protected against it but I am not sure? |

Dogs can get parvovirus, there was a lot of it about 25 years ago, but it was almost unheard of until it reared it's ugly head again & there have been quite a few cases recently. It is often fatal in dogs. Cats can get a similar virus i have cut/pasted this (it is often referred to a PLK) Cat Health: Feline Parvo (Panleukopenia Virus) This virus is similar in nature to the dog's parvo virus, however is only infectious to cats. Most cats affected are young and unvaccinated. In vaccinated cats, the disease is virtually non-existent. The virus is spread in saliva, urine, and feces. Areas infected with feline panleukopenia need to be disinfected with a bleach solution. Treatment of affected cats is supportive, supplying fluids and antibiotics to the patient. Recovery depends upon the severity of infection. Prevention through routine vaccination is extremely effective. |
