I sympathise, its awful trying to get an animal to eat when it does want too. I think it is the worst thing to have to deal with when they are poorly. I hope he picks up with the tablets and the food will hopefully keep him strong. Keep us updated. |

well tried to give some of the watered down grub, he was sick an hour later. hopefull the steroid will start working soon! will just stick to water for now and try agin with food before bed! |

well the steroids must be working!! he is EATING!!! yaaaaaay!  he had a wee bit of tuna, but it is a start! he had been syringe fed water and mush every 2 hours since half 8 and when i got back from work i went to give him more, i put down the tuna that had been lying out for him since this morning for my mums cat-or it would have went in bin(she comes up on her hols  ) and he comes out of the curtain, right up and sniffing! so i got some and he ate a bit! on a downer though, he decided he wasnt gonna bother trying to make it to litter tray and just wee'd and lay in it! so he got a mini sponge bath! he was also grooming himself for a couple of mins. just hope he wont revert back when the steroid wears off! |

Hi Lynz Your vet would have checked the creatinine, urea and phos, as these are the main ones that indicate how well the kidneys are functioning, dont get too involved with these numbers at the minute as it gets all consuming. Right now it is much more important to get the phos levels down. Reduce the phos and hopefully the urea and creatinine will follow but some cats can tolerate mid to high levels of urea and creatinine. It is the high phos that makes them feel really sick. What other foods have you tried to tempt him with? Sometimes applaws cat food can be quite appealing to ailing cats and has a low phos content, go for the chicken flavours. Zooplus also do a range of renal foods which are low in phos and possibly a little more palatable than Hills or RC. |

Poor boy must be feeling realy off to have lay down in a puddle. It's great news that he has eaten a bit, the food will help with his treatment. |
