unusual winter visitorLast night i was rather surprised to find this little visitor in the kitchen. I think it is a Red Admiral, what do you think. I released him into the garden today

mmmmm - it's not a Red Admiral Shelley .... not absolutely sure what it is, a Comma perhaps? Have a look on Google Images. |

I think it could be a Small Tortoiseshell .... the wings don't have the indentations of the Comma. |

Hmmmmm Angie, i think you are right as it says Tortoiseshells can be seen even in December. It did have a bit of a raggy appearance, i should have looked for the white comma underneath when it folded it's wings then we would have known for sure. I hope it manages to find somewhere if it needs to go back into hibernation. |
