Radiators and windows?Why do we seem to put radiators underneath windows.....has anyone noticed that the majority of radiators are underneath windows in nearly every home.? Is there some unwritten law about it  Karen

Why it is to increase condensation on the windows of course!  When I had a new combi boiler put in my old place I asked for the radiators to be put in different places and NOT under windows! |

It is space saving as you would not put, say a wardrobe in front of a window so if you had a radiator on one wall and a window on the other, that is two walls you cannot use!! |

When we had our new central heating system installed a few years ago, the plumber/fitter told us he never puts radiators underneath windows as that is the coldest place and increases heatloss. According to him radiators should always be fitted to an internal wall where there wouldn't be so much heat loss... I suppose it differs from one plumber to the next....  |

In my house all the radiators are beneath windows except the ones in the bathrooms. But that shouldn't affect the heat loss if the thermostat is on an inside wall... Good observation, Kazz! |

You know, the mind is funny the way it works; I didn't even notice the wording of Jane's post, read it as "windows" the second time as that was what I was expecting! Clever Kazz to catch that, and love the image you conjured up!!! |
